KOMDIGI: SDPPI / DJID Certification Guide for GPS Trackers in Indonesia

KOMDIGI: SDPPI / DJID Certification Guide for GPS Trackers in Indonesia

If you manufacture, import, or sell GPS tracker devices in Indonesia, you are legally required to obtain SDPPI (Postel) certification issued by the Directorate General of Digital Infrastructure (DJID) under KOMDIGI – the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs.

This regulation is part of the government’s efforts to control and ensure all telecommunication equipment meets national technical standards.

What Is a GPS Tracker?

GPS Tracker is an electronic device that uses Global Positioning System (GPS) satellites to track and monitor the real-time location of an object. Common Uses of GPS Trackers:

  • Vehicle Tracking: For personal cars, trucks, motorbikes, and fleets
  • Fleet Management: Logistics and delivery operations
  • Asset Monitoring: For bags, valuable items, or cargo
  • Personal Safety: Children, seniors, or pets

Why Is SDPPI (DJID) Certification Mandatory?

GPS Trackers typically include wireless communication modules such as: GSM / 4G / 5G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth. These modules transmit radio frequency (RF) signals, which legally classifies the device as a telecommunication device under Indonesian law. As a result, certification from SDPPI is mandatory before distribution or use in the country.

Applicable Regulations for GPS Tracker Certification

Importers, manufacturers, or distributors of GPS Trackers must comply with several KOMDIGI regulations:

Regulation Scope
KEPMEN KOMDIGI No. 12/2025 Wi-Fi usage in GPS devices
KEPMEN KOMDIGI No. 352/2024 4G LTE & 5G module certification
KEPMEN KOMDIGI No. 45/2025 GSM & WCDMA usage
KEPMEN KOMDIGI No. 260/2024 Bluetooth usage

Each module in the GPS tracker (e.g., Wi-Fi, GSM, Bluetooth) must be individually certified to ensure total compliance.
