4G LTE Device Certification: A Radio Frequency Guide in Indonesia

4G LTE device certification Indonesia Thumbnail

The 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution) network is the backbone of data communication in Indonesia, both for personal and industrial needs. To ensure interoperability and avoid signal interference, the use of radio frequencies is strictly regulated by the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) through official regulations. In accordance with the regulations set by the government regarding Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Decision No. 352 of 2024, which establishes technical standards for communication devices and/or mobile telecommunication equipment, particularly those related to the use of 4G technology.

1. 4G Frequency Spectrum in Indonesia

In Indonesia, 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution) technology operates on several frequency bands, including 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, and 2300 MHz. Several mobile operators use a combination of these frequencies to provide optimal coverage and speed. According to Komdigi regulations, 4G LTE frequencies in Indonesia are only permitted for use on several main bands, including:

This division aims to maximize network capacity and ensure service quality.

2. Compliance and Certification

All telecommunication devices operating on 4G networks must be certified by the Directorate General of Resources and Postal and Informatics Devices (Ditjen SDPPI). This certification ensures devices comply with technical standards, including official frequency allocations.

Cerapproval, as a certification agency, assists manufacturers and importers through the process efficiently — from device testing and specification adjustments to the issuance of official SDPPI certificates.

3. Consequences of Non-Compliance

Operating devices outside the official frequency bands can cause service disruptions and lead to administrative sanctions. In some cases, non-compliant devices may be banned from entering the market.

4. Tips for Manufacturers & Importers
  • Ensure that the device supports Indonesia’s official 4G bands.

  • Perform compatibility tests before distribution.

  • Use a testing laboratory registered with SDPPI (DJID).

  • Complete the technical documentation correctly to avoid rejection.

  • Use consulting services or agencies such as Cerapproval to expedite certification.

By following these guidelines, manufacturers and importers can ensure their 4G devices are ready to enter the Indonesian market in accordance with applicable standards.
